Fire Fox thank you for sharing.

I agree with you that marketing is more than just selling. I may have misstated it or worded it incorrectly.

Sales in my opinion has to be more about building relationships than selling a product. In my day job I deal with sales people on a routine basis and I can say that the best thing to come from them are the relationships. Sure we buy the product but the best things are gained via the relationship. I have been working with a great sales person that cold called my company that has benefited me in so many ways. Her company hosted a golf tournament and by accident I saw the list of people she invited to the tournament and asked for her to make an introduction to one of the persons for me to do the work. She took it one step further and just brokered the deal for me. This one relationship made me an in-house star. I have and will continue to help her promote her product just because of the relationship.

Again thanks for your response and input into social media.

Marketing is a bit more than selling, it's about the whole relationship with consumers.

A lot of us go into SEO with the intention of making money for ourselves -- that's a good thing, but the way to do that for the long term is build relationships that make value for our visitors, for advertisers and for others... Then we can capture a little for ourselves.

Social Media is exciting. Everybody in the SEO field is talking about it. My sites are getting thousands of visits a day from services that I hadn't even heard about six months ago. I know things are going to be totally different in a year or two, because we'll see new services that appeal to different kinds of people who are interested in different things.

It's an exciting time to be in this field!
