In the case of the experiment I just hand coded the files. The one I know, use, and like is xml-sitemaps.com stand alone generator. The have a free online tool that will generate up to 500 page url's. The stand alone generator offers serveral worth while functions. Go for the gold and just drop the $20 you wont be sorry you did. If you are pretty handy with python there is an open source code Google is <a href="https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/docs/en/sitemap-generator.html" rel="nofollow">endorsing</a>.
